How we compare cloud storage plans
We do one thing: keep an accurate, current table of what cloud storage actually costs. Here is exactly how.
What we track
For every provider: free tier size and limits, entry paid plan, mid-tier, 2 TB-class plan, annual pricing, family or multi-user seats, and the limits that bite. File size caps, device limits, bandwidth throttles, deletion policies on inactive accounts, all of it.
Where the numbers come from
The provider’s own public pricing page, checked by a human, with the check date printed above every table. If a price changes mid-month, the table may lag until the next check. The date tells you how fresh the data is.
How category picks work
Best free plan, best value per TB, best for backup, and best for privacy are decided by the numbers in the table plus the stated feature, not by commission rates. Value per TB is arithmetic. Privacy pick requires zero-knowledge encryption by default. Backup pick requires unlimited or flat-priced computer backup. When arithmetic ties, we say so and show both.
How we make money
Some links are affiliate links and pay us a commission at no cost to you. Several providers in our table, including some of the biggest ones, pay us nothing at all, and they stay in the table and can win categories. We will never remove a provider, reorder a table, or hand out a category win for money.
What we do not do
No star ratings. No “our score” out of ten. No paid placements. No reviews of products we have not priced out.
Every ranking on this site follows one of four rules.
Best value per TB
Decided by dividing verified price by verified storage. If two providers tie, both are shown.
Best free plan
The free tier with the fewest catches wins. Deletion policies and hidden caps count against.
Best for privacy
Requires zero-knowledge encryption by default, no upsell to an add-on tier.
Best for backup
Requires unlimited or flat-priced computer backup, not a shared drive.
